Master Class with Gina Angelique
Our Bodies are the
Source for Radical Change
A Master Class with Gina Angelique
For dancers, activists, actors, teachers and dance lovers
Sunday, March 30, 2008,
3:30 pm- 6:30 pm
At Eveoke Dance Theatre, 2811 University Ave. Suite A
$20 pre-registered, $30 walk-up- participants and ‘witness’ observers
We cannot ever realize a
sustainable culture and world without our bodies supporting
the hopes and dreams of our hearts and heads. Our
bodies are among our personal, most precious natural resources. What
does it mean to break body habits, move creatively while
centered in intention, and put our vision and prayers into
dance actions for peace and love? How do dancers
transcend the formality and structure of their technique
to harbor loose, open hearts? How do actors feel
the authenticity of dance in every action? How do
activists invigorate their work by feeling the power of
their bodies? Let’s come together and answer
these questions with even better ones! This
class is for anybody (2 year olds- 99 year olds, green
people, purple striped people, two elbowed folks too) who
want to feel the magic of ancestry and hope for the future
through their bodies, and realize their potential in mind,
heart and body equally.
To pre-register send your
check to Gina Angelique, 7978 Elmers Way, Shingletown,
Ca. 96088 no later than March 20th! Two registrations
in same family receive 50% off second registration. Call
Gina @ 530-474-3354, or e-mail digaboo@gmail.com with
any questions.

6th@Penn and the Human Rights Festival
2008
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
6th @ Penn Theatre in San Diego, California is seeking
unpublished plays for the Resilience of the Spirit: Human
Rights Festival 2008. The goals of the festival are to
recognize, celebrate, and document the lives affected
by genocide and torture, to raise awareness of human
rights as a social issue and of the plight of refugees
worldwide, to support artists creating human rights related
works and to foster partnerships in the arts community.
We are looking for plays about the human condition, specifically
plays that deal with social injustice, human rights abuses,
and the resilience of the human spirit from all around
the world. We are seeking full length and short comedies
or dramas to be fully staged or presented as staged readings.
The festival will run July-August 2008. Last year, we
featured productions that discussed racial, ethnic and
gender issues and themes ranged from American Miner’s
safety issues to the genocide in Rwanda. So the spectrum
of material is quite broad. Plays may not be published,
but previously produced shows are fine.
Written Submission Guidelines
All plays must be:
- In standard format.
- 3-hole punched.
- Between 10 and 110 minutes long.
- In English (translations are fine).
- Play must deal with social injustice, human rights
abuses, and the resilience of the human spirit.
- No more than 5 actors for full length pieces running
75-110 minutes
- No more than 3 actors for pieces 30 minutes and less.
Limited technical support, means as black box as possible.
We have sound support and general lighting, plus a few
specials here and there. This stage will be shared by
several productions, so keep the emphasis on the writing,
the acting, and the directing. Our theatre is small and
mighty, but PLEASE do not send us a script with a helicopter
or a live goat in it!
Include with your written submission:
- A title page with the playwright's contact info.
- A brief synopsis or log-line of the play.
- Character breakdown.
- Any past production history of the play.
- A short bio.
NOTE:
- We will keep the submissions, so no return envelopes
please.
Fees: NO fee
Scripts must be received by February 28, 2008 (This
is a received-by date, not a
postmark date.)
We are accepting scripts starting December 1, 2007 until
February 28, 2008.
We do not accept e-mail submissions, so snail mail only.
Please send all materials to:

Writing the Ten-Minute Play
- workshop with playwright Scot
Augustson
What: Playwriting workshop
with Seattle playwright Scot Augustson
Where: Diversionary Theatre, 4545 Park Blvd.
San Diego, 92116
When: Sunday February 24th 10:00-3:00
Cost: $60 includes admission to the reading
of Scot’s play The Summer Before the Summer
of Love
($10 off for Actors Alliance members)
Why bother
learning how to write a good ten minute play? Playwright
Scot Augustson, built his reputation in Seattle on the
basis of his ability to write very short pieces. Through
his shadow puppet work for cabarets and through regular
participation in Seattle's twice yearly 14/48 Festival,
he’s developed over sixty tiny gems. Scot says, “Not
only was I able to use these micro-epics to get my name
out there, but I became a better writer because of them.
Limitations of length teach valuable lessons in structure,
character and economy.”
So bring pen and paper (or laptop if that's what you
use) and we'll explore with Scot the virtues of brevity.
To sign up please contact Patty Loughrey at:

Holly Ritter
Special Invitation for Actor's Alliance Members
Brought to you and funded by SD Community
College District Continuing Education
Taught by a former New York Theatre Professional
Theatre Game Classes
This class is designed to ignite your
imagination, teach you to trust your
spontaneity, and keep you "in the moment". We
use Theatre Games - structured
improvisations based on the work of Chicago's The Second
City's Viola
Spolin, as well as instrumental exercises. Whether you
are a professional
burnt-out by the business, or a newcomer lacking self-confidence,
this is
the place to learn to "play" - the essence of
all Dramatic Art, and the real
reason that we are Actors. This is an on-going class with
current openings,
meeting once a week.
Scene
Study Classes at The Kroc Center
Just how do you "tackle" the
written script and break it down in preparation
for a performance? How do build/find a character, relationships,
or the
emotional life inherent in the role? What skills are needed
in a first
reading, or in rehearsal? What's the best way to incorporate
blocking and
direction? This class is designed for the beginning to
intermediate actor
and is being offered in the final week of January '08 in
an initial six week
trial session with a strong possibility of extension. Students
will be given
scripts, paired up and expected to do rehearsal homework,
their efforts
culminating in an invitation-only showcase at the Kroc
Theatre.
Hollymarie Ritter's theatre career involves
over 40 roles in musical and
non-musical comedy, Shakespeare, American dramatic classics,
improv troupes,
Children's Theatre and commercials and independent films;
and in production
venues as diverse as rotating rep., Equity and non-Equity
regional theatres,
summer stock, NYC Equity showcases, nightclubs, dinner
theatre and tours.
She took her basic training at New York's Neighborhood
Playhouse with
William Esper, and when not performing studied at HB Studios,
Warren
Robertson Studio (with such notables as Peter Flood); at
Chicago's The
Second City ; and with Eric Morris and the Tony-awarding-
winning Vivian
Matalon. For the last ten years, with a Master's in Intermodal
Expressive
Therapies from Lesley University, and as one of the very
few nationally
Registered Drama Therapists in San Diego, she has brought
the healing power
of Theatre and "play" to hospital populations.
She is highly supportive and
well-skilled in handling the challenges of the actor's
creative process.
Class Size is limited, so call now for
information and to sign-up. Holly can
be reached at 619-232-1668 or emailed at Spookkitties@cox.net.
