"I
enjoyed the intensity of 'Brand.' I liked how everybody
had a handle on their roles, giving the reading a feel
of staging. I would like to see more of these... Now
that I've seen an OBOS reading by the Actors Alliance,
I have a feel for what to tell my audience."
Robert "Hitch" Hitchcox, San Diego Critic |
This mission of the OnBook
ObStage Play reading series is to provide our members with the
opportunity to work
with top directors from the hottest San Diego theatres and to
bring new works and lesser produced classics to San Diego audiences.
Previous directors have included Rosina
Reynolds,
David Ellenstein, Sam Woodhouse, Brendon Fox, Paula Kalustian,
Todd Salovey and Kirsten
Brandt. Previous readings have included "Wit," "All
My Sons," "A Lion in Winter," "Boy Gets Girl," "An
Enemy of the People," and "Slamm!"

Casting has been finalized for AASD's
OnBook OnStage Staged Reading of SPRING'S AWAKENING. The
reading will take place on Monday, June 5, 2006 7pm at
Diversionary Theatre, 4545 Park Blvd. Suite 101, San Diego,
CA 9211
Admission: FREE
SPRING’S AWAKENING (1891) was censored or banned for much of the last
century. It examines adolescence with an unflinching gaze as it covers topics
such as teen suicide, child abuse, faith, and sexuality. Over one hundred
years later, the play remains surprisingly shocking and insightful. A musical
adaptation by Duncan Sheik recently opened in Boston. “
The awakening of Spring, alone, would not give us a drama but only a lyric
outburst. What happens here, and turns a lyric into a tragic-comedy, is
that when Spring awakes it does not blossom into summer and quietly fade into
Autumn. Winter arrives, two seasons early, and nips spring in the bud.” From
Eric Bentley’s introduction.
